I wasn’t terribly up to date on these issues in spite of my own personal experiences. I have suspected for years that hormones used in transition, including “puberty blockers”, might be resulting in widespread health issues that could be difficult to trace back to their sources.
My suspicion stems directly from those personal experiences. I am not going to post my medical history here, but I can appreciate the issues in a special way, as a cancer survivor that fits into this demographic.
While hormones & blockers used during or before transition can promote cancer (part of my situation), there is also a risk that transpeople may have clinical symptoms that are ignored and that put them at risk for cancer (most of my situation), or subclinical issues that are regarded as “psychiatric.” There are, potentially, aspects of transsexualism that we don’t know enough about yet to diagnose directly.
Personally, I think that the underlying causes of the health crises of western civilization — heart disease, stroke, cancer, Â and <name the latest unpronounceable diagnosis that you just heard about for the first time> — may also be producing far more cases of gender variance than were seen in the past. I have no proof. More research is needed.
